"Okay, uh, Mama said that we're checking in now and that we'll be in the same ward as before." Iggy explained, listening as he heard a clamoring on his father's end, presumably due to Butch trying to gather his things so he could come to the hospital.
"Alright, son, just tell your Mama that I'm on my way and that I love her and not to start without me." Butch said, gathering himself as presumed.
"Okay, alright, be safe, Dad." Iggy said before hanging up. He then looked down at his mother. "Daddy said he's gonna be here soon and not to start without him." He said, fidgeting with his phone.
Iggy was still very much a child, especially in the retrospect that he was easily frightened always, ALWAYS, felt more secure whilst holding onto his mother's apron strings. He gave a nod and promptly strode over to walk at his mother's side, reaching down to take her hand while they walked (or rather, she rolled).
It wasn't very long, almost a blur, getting situated in her gown and propped up in bed with all the wires and machines tapped into her frame. It wouldn't be long now, the contractions were getting closer together and the baby was bound to be out any minute. _________________
Iggy remained with his mother, expecting to keep at her side until the bitter end, however, he was quickly relieved of duty when his father came running into the hospital, barreled down the halls, and practically kicked down the door to Mina's delivery suite. He skid to a screeching halt and looked up at Mina, his cheeks flushed and his breathing heavy from the running, but a dopey grin still on his face all the same.
He dropped his briefcase and other personal belongings down on the floor rather carelessly as, in two lengthy strides, he joined Mina at her bedside. He took her hand and stooped down to place a firm kiss at her temple.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry I took so long." He said, still out of breath.
"Speaking of your son, is it alright if I go? I mean, I love you, Mama, but...I don't want to see all that National Geographic stuff." Iggy said from his perch in the chair at the corner of the room.
Butch looked over at Iggy and smiled, temporarily removing himself from Mina's side to go over to Iggy. He craned over, cupping Iggy's face in his hands, and gave his son a sloppy kiss on the top of his head.
"Yes, Iggy, you can go ahead and go. Thank you for taking good care of your Mama, I'm proud that you were able to do that for her and your baby brother." He said.
Iggy offered his dad a smile before standing up and getting up from the chair. He stopped once at his mtoher's bedside, leaning over to give her forehead a kiss and giving her his reassurances and well wishes. With that, he stepped out of the room.
As soon as Iggy took his leave, Butch returned to Mina's side, taking her hand as he took his seat.
In spite of all the hours that past and falling well into the night, a baby was born; safe and sound. Little fists shaking as a baby boy emerged; wailing at the top of his lungs. Mina let out a final pant before whining and dropping back against the bed. She wiped the sweat from her brow with the back of her hand before weakly reaching out.
"Butch...Is he...Is he perfect?" She breathed. _________________
Butch stared in awe as his and Mina's newborn son was passed from doctor to nurse as they tended to his initial needs of being cleaned up and what have you. He couldn't help but grin, rather pleased, as he managed to look away from their son to Mina. He leaned over and pushed her hair back before leaning down to kiss her forehead.
"Mina...he's more than perfect, he's so beautiful." Butch grinned.
It wasn't before long that this perfection Butch spoke of was brought over, wrapped up in a nice warm bundle, for his parents to see. The nurse grinned as she offered him out to Mina.
