Sylvie felt her heart fall inside of her and a lump bud in her throat. Of course, she knew, especially with Dale's specific line of work, that there were children ,close to home, who led such heartwrenchingly sad lives. It was sad to know this already, it was even sadder to hvae it exhibited right before her for further emphasis. She looked up at Dale and exchanged a look with him before clearing her throat.

"Speaking...of your mother, what is she like, sweetheart?" Sylvie asked Dean, although, she already had a pretty good idea.

"She's...I don't know. I don't really see her a lot." Dean shrugged.

"Do you know what your Mommy's name is, Dean?" Dale asked.

"...Mo-...Malinda I think." Dean nodded quietly; answering to Dale now too it seemed.

"Of course he doesn't know, he doesn't have one." Dale thought.

"Alright, okay." Sylvie nodded before looking to Dale. "Do you have any other questions you'd like to ask?" She asked.

"Do you know what your Daddy's name is?" Dale asked.

Dean shook his head no.

"Alright buddy, we'll try and find your Mom then." Dale said, licking his lips.

Sylvie pulled a face at the notion of "finding" Dean's mother. When they found her...what were they going to do with her? Moreover, what were they going to do with Dean? Surely they weren't going to put him back with that woman. Right?

"Uh, Dale, can I talk to you really quick?" Sylvie said, nodding towards the door, indicating she wanted to talk in private.

"Of course," Dale nodded and stood up. "If you need anything tiger, I'll be right outside." He said, nodding at the door before exiting the doorway.

Sylvie closed up her salad container and stood up, hesitating only to pet at Dean's hair a bit before briskly following after Dale. Upon exitting, she furrowed her brows and folded her arms over her chest and looked up at Dale with concern in her eyes.

"What's going to happen to him when you guys find his mother?" She asked. While she knew some about the child services sector, what she did know was vague.

"I don't know yet, it all depends on the condition of the caretaker and the condition of the home, and then the court's decision." Dale explained, ruffling his hair. "In most cases we give the parent a week to shape up if things aren't too far gone and if they can't do that, if things don't change in that instance the child comes into our care and goes into the system. It's possible that a family member could fight for custody, they can win too depending on the same conditions." Dale explained with a sigh.

"You can't possibly send him off with his mother, not in this case." Sylvie said, her voice frantic and her brows pulled tight together. "You heard him, she isn't even around, she's negligent, and she sounds just...just mean. You can't let them send him back to her."

"You don't need to tell me that Sylvie. I know, and if it were only up to me I would take him home with us. But it's still Kathryn's case, she'll run the background checks, she'll be in charge of the physical examinations and after that I don't know what's going to happen." Dale said.

Realistically, about a handful of kids that came in typically went back due to different reasons. Some kids would be okay to go back home, but not all could be so lucky.

"Can't...can't you talk to your boss? Have the cases switched? Can't you at least do something?" Sylvie asked.

"I can ask, but I've already gotten in trouble before for making things personal. And if I loose this job, I can't do anything at all." Dale said. "However, instead of calling in our physicians, if you volunteer to look at him we can get more marks against the mother faster if you find signs of neglect and abuse on his physical persons."

"Of course, whatever it takes." Sylvie said before peaking back into the room to check on Dean. "You just see what you can do and I can take him back to the clinic whenever its best." she nodded.
