They had been hanging out quite a bit, Leon and Alby. All of his friends knew who she was and didn’t often expect to see Leon without her these days. They spent lunches and after school walking around town; snacking, playing and laughing. They were best friends at this point, maybe even potentially a little more. Presently, Leon had met up with his usual troop in senior court. Little Foot, Hansome and Cardinal all waving him over. He jogged over to him and slid into the table, glancing over his shoulder for Alby who he hadn’t seen come out yet.

“Leon, she’s not out yet. Quit rubber neckin’.” Cardinal laughed, giving Leon a playful shove.

“I know, I know.” He merely laughed.

“Leon, my good man, prom is fast approaching. I hadn’t seen you with any girls as of late.” Little Foot said with an eyebrow wriggle.

“Well, we’ve all seen him with the same girl.” Hansome said with a grin.

Leon itched his neck nervously with a bashful laugh, blushing a little.

“Yes well, I dunno, I don’t think she’s going. I mean, I don’t think I will if she doesn’t. And then, I dunno, maybe would could do something else instead.” He shrugged and laughed.

In truth, from the first time Leon saw her he felt like he had been struck by lightning. She was smart and beautiful, witty and always called him out on his crap. Without a doubt he had a huge crush on her, and while it was still true to date even though they remained friends, he couldn’t really bring himself to ask her out. Not really. Though he always walked her home, treated her to lunch or after school froyo. Never a date, never an , ‘I like you.’ Nothing. Prom was his chance though to make a first move.

“I think you should just ask her to prom, the worst she can say is no.” Cardinal shrugged, ruffling her green hair as she yawned.

“No girl has ever told Leon no before.” Hansome commented.

“Nobody else is like Alby though.” Leon said under his breath with a half hearted smile.

Alby had just wrapped up a last minute meeting with her magazine staff at the end of fourth period and was now running late to lunch with Leon and his friends, and she was quite literally RUNNING.

She probably wouldn't ever admit it, but she looked forward to hanging out with Leon, whether it be one on one, with a group, during school, or after school. As shocking as it was, especially to herself, she enjoyed his company thoroughly. He was surprisingly talented and, despite her preconceived notion of him, he was rather smart. Not to mention he was handsome as well.

She came trotting down the outside corridor that led from the school's main building to the canteen, her hair flouncing about her face as she came to a hasty halt just outside the cafeteria doors. Looking inside, she could already see Leon sitting at the usual table with their usual crew. A small unsuspecting smile bud at her lips, which she promptly bit away as she slipped inside and began towards the table at a much more casual pace that differed from her hurried running previously.

She came up behind Leon and placed her hands behind her back, tucking one in the other, before clearing her throat as if to announce herself.

Leon jumped, startled but clearly pleased to see it was Alby who had startled him.

"Alby! Glad you could make it." He laughed, sticking his tongue out at her before reaching around, wrapping his arm around her waste and pulling her down into the vacant chair beside him. Said chair may or may not always be reserved for her persons.

"So Alby, we were just talking about prom." Cardinal grinned, leaning forward on the table.

"Yeah, you got a date Miss O'Rourke?" Little Foot asked with a wink.

Alby laughed as she was 'forced' down into the seat beside Leon before proceeding to make herself comfortable. She situated herself in the seat before looking up and across the table to Leon's friends. She reached up and casually tucked a tendril of hair behind her ear before a small, slightly embarrassed smile took her freckled face.

"Oh, no, no one has asked, not this year or last year." She admitted.

"She lies!" Hansome laughed.

"Alby never lies." Leon quickly retorted with furrowed brows, like it was meant as an insult.

"Well, if someone were to ask you this year, would you go with them?" Cardinal asked.

Alby chuckled at the notion and leaned forward towards Cardinal with a brow cocked now.

"Why are you asking? Do you know someone interested?" She asked.

"I actually do." Cardinal said with an eyebrow wriggle.

"Yeah, what if I asked you out?" Little Foot asked, scooting Cardinal out of the way so HE could lean on the table to face Alby.

Leon merely pouted his lip at his friends, he thought they were supposed to be helping him.

"I think I'd have to ask you WHY, Little Foot." Alby laughed as she reached across the table to playfully shove Little Foot's face away.

"I'll have Leon explain why." Little Foot teased, clicking his tongue against his cheek as he leaned back in his seat.

Leon's face lit up and he coughed and looked away. Suddenly shuffling through his bag for anything to look at.

"Hm? Oh well, you know. Why wouldn't he? I mean, Alby's clearly too good for him, but you know, anybody should want to. Why wouldn't they? No good reason." He coughed again, flipping through his portfolio as he twirled his pencil around his fingers.

Alby's face turned bright red at the compliment, however, she promptly coughed and turned away, using her hair to cover her face, while she forced a laugh.

"Says who?" She asked.

Cardinal stretched and stood up. She never stayed for all of senior court since she tried to get into the music room for a little practice before class. As she started to step away and leant down and whispered into Alby's ear with a cheeky grin.

"Says Leon." Before striding away.

Alby's face deepened a few shades of red as Cardinal whispered into her ear. She had her intuitions and what have you, however...she still had her skepticism and disbelief. Why would anyone, ESPECIALLY Leon, be that fond of her?

Alby turned to face Hansome and blinked. She had expected LEON to be the one to ask her out.

"Excuse me?" She asked, snapped out of her embarrassment Cardinal had spurred on.

"What?" Leon reiterated, his own head snapping up at Hansome.

"Yeah, before someone scoops you up and whisks you away." He said, brows arched with a smile.

'No,' Leon mouthed, shaking his head subtly at Hansome. He would fight him for Alby if he had to. Although, Hansome was better looking, smarter, talented...Well, he might be better suited for Alby. Either way, Leon wasn't prepared to have her taken from him right then.

"Hansome, be serious. She's too good for you, Little Foot too. Maybe not Cardinal, but still." Leon argued.
